Tanjong Rhu MRT: How Far It Is From the Tanjong Rhu Road Site, and Where the Thomson-East Coast Line Takes You
If you are looking at the upcoming Tanjong Rhu Road launch, the first question is usually how close the nearest MRT station is. In short: Tanjong Rhu MRT (TE23) on the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) opened on 23 June 2024 and is about 650 to 700 metres from the site in a straight line. The nearer entrance, though, is Exit 2 of Katong Park MRT (TE24), one stop east on the same line, at about 500 to 600 metres. This guide sets out how we measured that, what the TEL connects to from either station, and what is still unknown.
Straight-line distances from the Tanjong Rhu Road site
We measured from the site boundary in URA's Government Land Sales map (the parcel awarded on 10 February 2026) to the station entrance coordinates published by OneMap, the Singapore Land Authority's map service. These are straight-line figures, rounded to the nearest 50 metres. They are not walking distances.
| Station entrance | Line | From nearest site boundary | From centre of site |
|---|---|---|---|
| Katong Park MRT, Exit 2 | TEL (TE24) | about 500 m | about 600 m |
| Tanjong Rhu MRT, Exits 1 and 2 | TEL (TE23) | about 650 m | about 700 m |
| Stadium MRT, Exit B | Circle Line (CC6) | about 750 m | about 800 m |
| Mountbatten MRT, Exit B | Circle Line (CC7) | about 950 m | about 1,050 m |
Walking routes will be longer than these figures. How much longer depends on road crossings, footpaths and where the development's pedestrian gate ends up, and the site layout has not been released. We have not given walking times in minutes because we have not measured a route. Once the developer publishes a site plan with the gate positions, we will measure the walk to each station and add it to the location page.
Why Katong Park can matter as much as Tanjong Rhu
Both stations are on the TEL and sit next to each other on the line, so the choice is about the walk, not the network. Tanjong Rhu MRT is one stop closer to the city. Katong Park is closer in a straight line, especially to the eastern part of the site. When you compare stacks or blocks after floor plans are out, check which side each block's lobby faces. On a site this size, that can change which station is more convenient for you.
Where the TEL goes from Tanjong Rhu
LTA opened the TEL in stages. Stage 4, from Tanjong Rhu to Bayshore, opened on 23 June 2024 and linked the East Coast stations to the stretch already running through Marina Bay, the CBD, Orchard and Thomson to Woodlands. From Tanjong Rhu:
- Towards the city: the next open station is Gardens by the Bay, then Marina Bay (interchange with the North-South and Circle Lines), Shenton Way, Maxwell and Outram Park (East-West and North East Lines). Further along, the line has interchanges at Orchard (North-South Line), Stevens (Downtown Line), Caldecott (Circle Line) and Woodlands (North-South Line), and it ends at Woodlands North.
- Towards the east: Katong Park, Tanjong Katong, Marine Parade, Marine Terrace, Siglap and Bayshore.
- Stations not yet open: Founders' Memorial, between Gardens by the Bay and Tanjong Rhu, will open together with the Founders' Memorial. Marina South, between Gardens by the Bay and Marina Bay, will open when developments in that area are completed. LTA has not given an opening date for either.
LTA's own example for the East Coast stretch is a Marine Parade resident reaching Shenton Way in about 20 minutes on the TEL. Marine Parade is three stops further from the city than Tanjong Rhu. We do not quote a Tanjong Rhu figure because LTA has not published one.
What is coming next on the line
- Stage 5 (Bedok South and Sungei Bedok): on 28 April 2026, LTA said this stage would open in the second half of 2026, with Sungei Bedok as an interchange with the Downtown Line. As of 8 October 2026, LTA's newsroom has not given an opening day.
- Changi Airport extension: in July 2025, LTA announced a 14 km extension from Sungei Bedok to a new Changi Terminal 5 station, with the Tanah Merah to Changi Airport stretch converted to the TEL. Terminal 5 is scheduled for the mid-2030s. LTA has not given a completion date for the rail extension.
Once both are open, Tanjong Rhu and Katong Park will have one-line rides to the CBD and Orchard in one direction, and to the Downtown Line at Sungei Bedok and eventually Changi Airport in the other. Until LTA confirms the dates, treat the airport link as a plan, not a timetable.
What is confirmed and what is not
Confirmed: URA awarded the 12,239.3 sqm Tanjong Rhu Road site on 10 February 2026 to CDL Constellation Pte. Ltd. and Bedrock Ventures Pte. Ltd. on a 99-year lease, and URA's tender documents estimated about 525 homes. The station openings and line stages above come from LTA.
Not yet confirmed: the project name, site plan, gate positions, unit mix, pricing and completion date are all still to be announced. Indicative prices will go on the price page and layouts on the floor plans page once the developer releases them. To be told when preview dates are set, register on the showflat page.
